John Washburn CLC 1067 Sadly deceased.

Fellow Members and Friends,

Just got my 56 engine back from the machine shop. This is the third block but it is good to go.

The second engine I obtained (the block was cracked) came with 56 heads and I am wondering if there is a vendor who sells Valve seats for a 56 Cad 365 CI motor???

Second on my 56 Engine, which I rebuilt years ago the stamping/casting number on the heads is 146 2983. I can't find that number in my casting book, my interchange manual, or any of my Master Parts Lists.

Anyone got a reference?

John, obviously you don't have the right manual! In the "1950-65 General Motors Interchange Manual" the casting number 1462983 is for 1956 Cadillac.

Roger,

Interesting. I looked it up in the 1961 MPL. I now have checked my 1957 MPL and the numbers in it all start with 363.

Did you look it up in the the 1956 MPL?

But John, the casting number is NOT the part number! After so many years, you should know that! If you are looking at the MPL, you can see that the head is coming with guides, dowels and plugs. Therefore, it's an assembly and the casting number cannot be related to an assembly!
I have the opinion that you should avoid the Merlot for some time and try instead a Cabernet-Sauvignon!

Roger,

You got me on that one.

I have the same interchange manual but did not go to the Cylinder Head Identification Numbers section just looked at the Cylinder Head Index.

As a professional tippler giving up the red wine is not an option. I believe the  problem was early morning and sobriety.

Thanks for the help.

I agree. I just suggested another grape variety!
Glad you found the casting numbers. I had an advantage over you: it was afternoon and still sober. No more for long as dinner time is approaching...
