I have an old side view mirror that has decent chrome and glass but want to re-chrome the mirror.  I know there are guys out there that can remove the glass from gauges (for purposes of repairing the gage) without damaging the chrome ring that holds the glass to the gage.  This mirror appears to have the same type of arrangement.

I took it to the local glass shop that is usually pretty good with my stuff, but the "new" owner was perplexed about how he would do it.

Any suggestions?  Are there guys out there restoring old mirrors like this?
