Guys:

I had this discussion up a while back but I want to resurrect it.  I would like to try and replate my rear bumper over this winter as someone painted it to cover up some minor surface rust.  The bumpers are in sound shape and really only need to be replated.  Some of you recommended Librandi in Harrisburg PA but with their 1500 price tag and 10 week waiting period I'm not getting the warm and fuzzies.  Does anyone else have a shop they'd recommend?  I'd prefer it to be the traditional three step process using copper, nickel, and chrome.  I've heard of folks using a shop down in Richmond but I hear they're so so.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS- I'd prefer east coast shops...I don't want to have to ship the bumpers

I have been using Frankford Plating in Phila and have been very satisfied.

Ask for John Barger Jr and mention Brian Rachlin from the Cadillac Club told you to call.

He has all of my chrome for the 60 Seville I am working on in my shop now.

Good Luck,

Brian

1500$ actually sounds pretty good if they are doing the prep as well. Personally I send my stuff across the border to a shop that does lowriders, its not 100% perfect show quality work but it is darn near it and a bumper of that size with prep would run about 750$.

1500 is a very reasonable price for show chrome

Okay I'm not 100% opposed to the price...but the 10 week waiting time kinda sucks.  I don't want to get to the beginning of spring and not have a rear bumper for my car.

Tim,

I agree, buy a core rear bumper and send it off for re-plating.  then in ten weeks switch them.  My cardinal rule is never remove stuff from my car that makes it not able to be driven (hoods, trunks, bumpers count, unless it is for a day).  When you make the switch the core can be sold and you will be hole, or retain it as a spare.

Super Chrome in Asbury Park, NJ. Just had them do the four front bumper ends for my 1970. Very happy with their work, and yes, it was the triple plate process as you described. Their "waiting time" right now is about three weeks.

Thanks Chas they said 850 for driver but 1600 for show.  If I'm going to replate my bumpers I want them looking as good as new...maybe even better.  With the drive being an additional 2 hours longer right now I'm looking at Librandi's.  I'll definitely keep these guys in mind though when it comes time to do these bumpers...they're only a 5 week waiting period.

On a side note with the Anodized gold grill...was that actual gold or was it a yellow zinc?  It helps to know when calling people about my grill

Thank you Mike!  I've just sent them an email regarding my vehicle.  Some of you have already seen my car up close but here she is.  The front chrome is okay...but its the back chrome that really annoys me.  Someone painted silver paint over the middle piece since it had some minor blemishes...etc.  I can tolerate the chrome in the front for right now but I really want to replate my grill.  Its faded and it needs to be redone.  Here are some photos
