I changed to negative ground on my '41 Cadillac. How does this affect my temperature gauge? All other items have been taken care of and work fine. C Gorgas 25441

You may have to swap the wires around on the gauge but not too sure. If you changed up to 12 volt I don't think the sender will work anyway?

I stayed with 6 volts but changed to negative ground; I have since pulled the gauge and sending unit and sent them to the person whose business is checking and rebuilding gauges, speedometers, etc. Will post again as soon as I know the end result. C. Gorgas 25441

I am curious to know what was the reason you decided to go from a positive to negative ground on your 41?    Bill

I changed to negative ground because I was having great difficulty finding the correct battery. I was informed of a number of places but when I checked with them they could not help. Chet 25441

I never heard that the battery has anything to do with negative or positive ground .You connect the positive or negative to the ground depending how the car is wired .

Just a trick I did on my best friends 41 cad.  I took the battery box out of the car and lengthened the box .5 inch.  Then I went to my local John Deere dealer and purchased one of they're strong box batteries.  If I remember right it's 13x7 inches.  It's bigger than a normal small square 6v battery. But that is a excellent battery. Spins the engine over great.  Way more power than a normal 6v battery.   Also.  It might not be a good idea to go negative ground on your 41.  The starter wasn't designed to run that polarity.  It will still turn the right direction but that's a very expensive starter. Especially the solenoid.  I wouldn't think it's doing it any favors by reversing that.   If it were me I'd leave it as God intended it to be.   Chris clc 18814
