1969 cad limo caliper clip question

hello , on a 69 deville on the front brake caliper , I am concerned about the placement of the antirattle clip - please see pics attached !

If you put it in where it looks like it is meant to go , as per the shop manual.....

my only concern is that when the pads wear down.... the ends of the clip will contact the disc!!

Is it possible that that is exactly what it is supposed to do?  Many cars have a low brake pad warning.  It is a piece of thin steel that causes a noise when the pads are worn.
