Hi, I just recently found out that the power antenna in my 78 Eldorado is not the factory correct one anymore.
My Eldo comes with a radio with the CB option, so it should have the according tri-band antenna for the 78 Eldorado.
One of the previous owners must have replaced the original antenna with an aftermarket antenna, which works, but I have very poor CB reception and of course it does not look correctly.

I may have found a replacement - but I'm not 100% sure if what I have found is correct for my 78 Eldorado. The fine gentleman who is offering it to me said that he removed it from a 78 Eldorado.
Does anybody of you have such an antenna in his 78 Eldorado (other models and years had different ones) and could please compare it to what you have? Or do you have a picture of your original CB tri-band antenna?
Does the bezel which goes through the fender look like the one on the pictures?
Also a part number would be extremely helpful to make sure that I'm buying the correct antenna - unfortunately my master parts list ends in 1975...

The part number on the unit I was offered is: #50449 /5

I have attached pictures from the shop manual and pictures from the antenna I was offered. I *think* and hope that it is the correct one. Any hints would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Bob - I have sent you an email. Do you think the antenna you are seeing here is correct but might miss an escutcheon?

22010415 is the part number for the (78 Eldorado only) am/fm/cb antenna. Mine looks different than the one pictured.

Bill,
Correct #, but I just looked in my MPL. It fits 77 AND 78. I sent him the P/N directly.
Gerald,
I don't have an antenna to compare. Maybe someone that has one will chime in.

Thanks a lot for looking up the part #.
You mentioned that yours looks different.
Does your load coil and tip of the mast look differently or the rest of the antenna? Do you by any chance have a picture of your antenna? Maybe when it is extended? Thanks a lot! Gerald

Battery is dead I'll charge it and get a picture later today. My Parts manual shows different part numbers for 77 and 78 but then again its a 1983 edition; things may have changed since then.

Thank you Bill!
Looking forward to your pictures.
I too think that originally 77 and 78 had different antennas judging by the picture in the shop manual.

Well I couldn't get to my charger to be able to extend the aerial but I got a photo of whatever can be seen inside the fender. Mine has the coil on the mast but I recall it may be further from the tip than yours

Thank you very much Bill!
It indeed looks different than the one I will get.
I think the coil is height adjustable. The shop manual mentions that.

I just found out that the antenna I have in the car now was used in Cadillacs and other GM cars with CB from the early 80s on and was the official replacement. I would still prefer to have a original 78 antenna for authenticity.

Thanks a lot for the pictures Joe!
They were extremely helpful for my research.
What I have found out is that #22010515 was the original part number for the antenna.
This antenna was also used in the 1977 to 1982 Corvette and is extremely rare...
Replacement antennas had the part number #22010661 on the sticker like yours with a date code below. (Could it be that yours was replaced around 1984?)
When these replacement antennas were no longer available it seems they switched to a different antenna design as a replacement #12355706 (which I have in my car now). This last design came with a special antenna splitter. I do not know if this splitter is essential or of it would also work with the original splitter which is still in my car.

The antenna I have posted at the beginning of this thread is definitely incorrect :-( and I have wasted some good money. I should have done more research before the purchase - I´m too impatient.
I´m having a very hard time now to find the correct antenna - any leads would be highly appreciated.
Thanks Gerald

Bill may I please ask you for another favor? Would it be possible to get a picture of the chrome bezel/escutcheon where the antenna goes through the fender? I have bought one and I'm not sure if it is the correct one. I have enclosed pictures of the one I got, just want to confirm if it is the correct one for a 78 Eldorado, as I think the rubber should be slightly angled or maybe its correct and something is missing to be able to mount it to the fender? As I have never seen an original CB bezel/escutcheon I have no idea how it should look like. I have also attached two pictures of this part that I have found on eBay and to me this one looks more correct?

BTW I have found the correct original antenna yesterday as the other one I got first unfortunately was incorrect and came from a Buick... :-)

Joe, do you by any chance have a picture of the bezel / escutcheon where the antenna goes through the fender? I´m sure you took it off during the repaint?

Your site says it has about every option; is the car fuel injected? Bruce Roe

Bruce, to be precise it does not have Sun Roof, and firemist paint, I will update my website accordingly.

Fuel injection was not available with the 78 Eldorado, so your list of options the car doesn't have just dropped by one.

I see.  According to my list EFI was optional on 76/77 Eldo, standard
on 79 Eldo, std on 76-79 K and available on C cars, but not
available on 78 Eldo.  Bruce Roe
