My friend Rick is trying to do a little research on the car that he had his first year of college. He lived in Santa Barbara Ca. at the time and gave it up when his mother said it took up too much room in the driveway. It was a 1937 Cadillac V12 with some kind of custom body that he was told had been built for the world's fair in France. The original Fleetwood body had been removed. It was so wide that a cop told him it was legal to have 4 people in the front seat. Any thoughts or information might help trace this strange car. Thanks.

That's pretty wild. It looks like a 1938 front end or could be a '38 to '40 V 16 front. I would say, just my opinion, that this car appears to be a non factory custom. Very interesting, I hope someone has info or knows the history.     Harry

Guys,
I bought that car in San Jose, Ca. about 1973. The body & mechanical work was REAL crude. Part aluminum ,part steel.  Good running gear. I had a 37 V12 conv. sedan with no engine & trans. I used the motor & trans from the custom. I didn't have the heart to junk it. A guy bought it  & it got kicked around town for a few years. It finally ended up in a storage lot in Alviso. I lost track of it at that time. Be advised that was 35+ years ago & I have NO way to trace it. Sorry.

Well, that is the power of the internet for you. Thank you so much Bob, for taking the time to reply. Just that little bit of information will thrill my friend Rick.

Do you have any photos of the engine or the car you installed it in? That would be great to see, at least for Rick.

Thanks again.

Steve,
You be right. LOL! I was trying to stuff it into the 60 series CC but it wouldn't fit. LOL! It was so much fun dragging in those cars back then. And... I'll bet I've saved more cars than everyone on this board combined. If the custom wasn't so crude, I'd have saved it.

Remind Rick that this beast earned the title "The Edsel Eater" after he rear-ended and throughly trashed an Edsel while only shaking the dust off the caddy's front bumper.
