Officially looks like 1956 was first described as 6 passenger but in practice I recon it was as soon as they moved the gear-stick off the floor in 38 ::)

Three people could have theoretically fit in the front seat a 1902.

According to the 'Standard catalog of Cadillac' by Krause Publications 1955 was the first year Cadillac called them 6 passenger cars.

An "official" answer might be found in Master Parts Lists, that list all body styles in a specific section before the parts list itself.

The 1952 MPL describes most sedans from 1935 to 1952 as "5-pass." cars. The exceptions being
(1) some Series 67, 72, 75, 85 and 90 which, although listed as "sedans", were actually limousines.
(2) 1942 to 1947 Series 60S, 61, 62 and 63 sedans, referred to as "4-door sedans" with no number of passengers specified.
Some long-wheelbase business sedans are listed as "9-pass." cars, which would mean 3+3+3 - partial answer to the original question.

As for sales literature, the 1953 Data Book description of the Series 62 sedan twice refers to "the driver and front seat passengers" (with an "s", page 39). And the same year Series 75 sedan front seat "seats three in restful comfort" (page 62).
