SUBJECT:  Throttle Linkage and More
I am still assembling this 1938 Cadillac Opera Coupe.  Soo many things are missing.  I wish I had a car to reference and take pictures of somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area, preferably in San Jose, Ca.   I just need to look, shoot photos to answer my questions.  Anybody?

Throttle linkage is broken and parts are missing.
Can somebody shoot a photo of the throttle linkage that mounts to the firewall?
What return springs are required?  Where do they hook up?  What spring force is required?

Clutch:  From Pedal to Throw Arm
Can somebody shoot a photo of the Clutch Assembly Linkage?
From the end of the foot pedal, under the car,  there is linkage that pushes the throw arm into the Throw Out Bearing.
How does this linkage mount to the frame?   Is there a Large spring somewhere?  How big?  What Spring force?

See Photo:  Tapped hole on the back of the block
What does this hole go to?  Is this for the Oil Pressure gauge tube?

Brian (Ah so many questions) Schott

Steve Passmore

Brian. the hole beside the distributor tower is indeed where the oil pressure gauge comes from but that's not always the case. My 37 has a plug in there and the plug also serves to hold the shaft in with the bronze gear running on it. Some oil gauge pipes come from different places but there should still be a retaining plug in there.  It takes a special fitting in there if you do have the pressure pipe connected to it and it takes a special plug with an oil hole running through it.   This was discussed here some time back. Its a double male fitting.

You certainly have your work cut out for you with this car. I have never seen a throttle linkage like that??  They are always steel rod attached directly to the bulkhead.

Brian,

I have all of the front sheet metal off of my 38 LaSalle coupe at the moment so I could take a couple of pictures for you.  However, I don't know for sure if the Cadillac and LaSalle linkages are the same.  I do know that the LaSalle clutch linkage is year specific.  Someone on the forum will know and if they are I will be happy to take some pictures for you.

There, You see there's no sign of that large pressed throttle bracket Brian?  You do seem to have lots of wrong or missing parts.

These pictures are the BEST!!!!!  It is soo helpful to get a look at these and compare with what I have.   Steve you are correct I have a lot of mysteries to solve and parts to go find.   I have fabricated, using these wrong parts, a linkage that should work until I find the proper linkage you have shown to me.  Thanks for snapping the photos for me!!

Next is the Clutch return spring.   How big is it and where does it connect?   Same with the Brake pedal?

Regards,
   Brian Schott

Photo shows what I have going at the moment for Throttle linkage Bracket I made
Photo Two is another question for Top Dead Center.   Which mark is it, "C" or "IGA"
     Firing Order is  1,8,7,3,6,5,4,2............correct?

Steve Passmore

C, is top dead centre Brian but the points are set to just start opening on 'IGN'  Can't take credit for the pictures though as that was kindly by Dan and Art.  Firing order correct.

Thanks very much Art.  I bought a spring, light load, unwound a few turns and attached from Card to Distributor tower.  If to stiff I will unwind a few more turns.

Currently I am struggling to find a fitting to go into the block for the Oil Gauge.  Steve says the unique thread is 7/16-16.   I can't find it anywhere.   I am considering buying what is available, 7/16-20, in Brass.  With soft material I am hoping to form my own threads
