Preparing to restore the AC unit on my 1957  60S

I took Greg Surfas seminar at the Grand national and learned quite a lot and now as I prepare I found I need even more information.

I was going to change to R134 but have decided to keep on with R12
Should I reseal it my self and if so where would I acquire the necessary parts or is it better to just send it to a good re-builder and if so who is recommended?

Are all brands of R-12 equal? They should be but I see a plethora of brand names and options like Sealers, Dyes, oils, and R-12 -A . Which should I consider?

I am basically familiar with large multi ton A-C Chillers but have no experience with automotive A-C units. What is a good reference book. I want to know how to do it, not study the theory.

Gary,
Thank you for your kind words.  It was good to meet you.  Regarding re-sealing your compressor, if your "A5" compressor has not been replaced with an A^, re-sealing is a job for the pros, and I would suggest contacting Old Aire in Ft.Worth.
With R-12 I would suggest using (the old fashioned) Miner oil, and there are no sealers or dyes required for normal operation.
As to R-12, be real careful about what you buy, because there have been continuous horror stories about the quality and the actual composition of chemicals being sold as R-12.
You legally have to be licensed to get R-12, and this is a certification I am sure you can get seeing you are already in the AC industry.  With that certification you should try the local AC delco parts wholesaler for "recycled" R-12.
