I am installing a back up light on my 41 Series 61 coupe. Can someone give me an idea as to where to drill the hole to mount it? A picture of one mounted would be helpful too. Thanks.

Lars,
Measure 3 times, drill once. I've seen some bad installations over the years. It was a dealer installed item. I've never seen or heard of a template. Look at  3 on cars & see if they match. If you do come up with a template, I'd like to get a copy as I'm selling 2 of them in the next SS. Thanks.

Too much fun is more than you can have.

Was the oval type also dealer installed ?    Or just the round type dealer was dealer installed ?

In 41, only the oval type was correct. Many 41's got round ones installed later as I'm sure the oval ones were sold out. I'm not sure if 42 & later were available factory installed.

Lars, you should be able to pretty well tell from the (original) installation picture I sent you. It appears to be almost horizontal to the bend in the tail lamp lens, and about eight inches in from the body seam. Call Jeff and have him measure as I thought that where I drilled was pretty close. At least, it looked OK to me. I have included the original sheet for the dealers installation.

According to my installation sheet, it was over towards the trunk opening a little more. Candidly, I don't think anyone is going to be faulted if you get it in the general area. The parts manager probably handed it to the closest mechanic and said, "Here's another one to put on..."
