I'm having a heck of a time finding the Wix 51049 oil filter locally or even the Fram PH11 and 25 and their variants in other brands. Is anyone else having the same difficulty and using a different filter that will fit and work properly or am I stuck ordering one in.

Dan I just would order them in from RockAuto unless shipping is outrageous to Canada.  They are 1.99 right now

Do you have a NAPA nearby? If so, I will look up their part number.

I'm going to run across the border to Maine and try my luck at NAPA over there. I believe it's a Napa gold 1049

I believe Napa 1049 filters are made by wix at least that's what they told me when I purchased mine

Wouldn't you want to get an A C Delco PF24 or PF31 to keep it Factory-looking?

Gee, I still remember buying a new Purolator sock style filter off the shelf at Pep Boys.  I think it was the only time I went there every year.  Then they stopped carrying them.

The old filter elements were used on a lot of farm equipment which kept them in regular production.

Now I have trouble finding a filter for the '91 Brougham.

Yes. The NAPA gold filters are Wix and are supposedly pretty good. They do keep one in stock at all times at the Calais, ME store they told me so I'll be going there again for the next one.

As far as a Delco one - in this part of the country 9 people out of 10 ask what the car is, so, I'm the only one who sees the filter so what it is doesn't really bother me. If I can walk into a parts store here and get one, that's a small victory around here just to have a new filter let alone a Delco one.

Could always paint it blueasy and slap a decal on it but that's too much bother for something that will be disposed of.

The last 58 air filter I bought popped right up on Amazon!  Seems like they have everything.

I remember when a spin-on filter was $2.99 - sometimes free with the purchase of 5 quarts of oil for $.59/quart - not anymore!

Its worse than that.  Now I have to add zinc to oil, to protect the cams on
all my old engines: cars, tractor, generator, cultivator, etc.  When I started
changing my 62s oil, I could find oil on sale for $.25 a quart and $2 filter.
And leaded gas for $.249 a gallon.  Bruce Roe
