just about finished with my '41 and seem to be missing something. I believe there should be a panel that extends from the inner fender on the passenger side back toward the firewall that offers protection for the battery and the firewall. Also, on the driver side where the inner fender ends at the bottom, it seems there should something to secure the panel from flopping around. I hope I've explained this so that you members with more knowledge and experience can understand. I've looked at many, many pictures of engine compartments, but never a clear picture of the area! Can anyone help? Maybe some pics. There is not a 41 in this area I can compare with.
Thanks very much,
Don Ford

Don, you are right. There is a "box" that goes around the battery area. Someone should chime in with more specific details. Also, don't forget the rubberized pieces that go on top of the frame rails and above the shock arms on the inner fenders (from Steele Rubber.)

Don,.
If you can get pics of what you need, I may have the pieces. My 41 is not stock under the hood.

I happen to have my fenders and this piece off my car during it's restoration.  If you need it I can post a picture.  It should be the piece described above and is painted black while the inner fender panels are body color.

These are the rubber shields referred to.
Years ago I enlarged this picture and transferred it to reinforced rubber available here from a rubber suppliers and have been making my own ever since.
Steele also has the special clips that hold it to the chassis. the problem is always how to hold it to the fenders. They were stapled on in the factory by some MASSIVE stapler.

What I did for staples was tedious but it worked.  I got some stainless wire stock of the same size as the staple so it would go thru the holes in the fender.  They were formed into a 'U', the rubber held to the fender with spring clamps, then manually punched the rubber and bent the legs over on the stainless wire.  Looks good if not exacly original.

I think you told me about that sometime in the past Paul. Did you do that with the fender off the car? Real hard to do on your own when the fenders attached. Need another set of hands I guess.

Thanks to all of you...Steve, you make your own, are they like Steele Rubbers product? I could order from them. And yes, them  staples are a bugger, takes a mighty hefty stapler. On some of my old window whiskers, I replaced staples with small screws. Guess the staples on the caddy are much larger and tougher! Paul, that's a good idea with the stainless steel.
Mike, please send the pic. Thanks
Bob, thanks to you

I sort of did both.  Fenders were temporarily mounted with a couple screws and the rubber was aligned over a couple mounting clip holes for each piece.  I marked the rubber with index points for front-back & how much overlap on the inner fender, then took everything off and did the staples with fenders on a padded table.

They turn out identical to the Steele product Don for about half the purchase price but I also save on transatlantic shipping and customs duty here in the UK.

That must be it! Thanks Steve. Wonder where I can those pieces, or am I [my builder] gonna have to fabricate? I don't have the skills or tools to do that.

Don,
Not sure what you mean?? As soon as we get pics from Mike, I'll look in my sheet metal pile & if I have them you won't have to fab anything. I feel it will be easier to work from Mikes pictures.

Sorry I am late doing this Bob.  I have a large party at the house today and have been preparing for it over the past few days.  I will try to get the picture this morning and send it to you before everyone shows up here.

Guys,
Thanks to all the people that supplied pics. Don, sorry but I don't have it. I'm sure it's the same on all 41's so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Be careful of salt belt junk! Good Luck.
