The Pitman arm on 1959 and 1960 Cadillacs stamped 1035 was recalled and replaced with a harder steel unit marked 1038.

This has been discussed before.

Where is a good place to get the 1038 Arm?

Brian:

The 1038 arms are very hard to come by.  If a vendor says they've got one, I'd ask for a picture.  There were some arms with no number on them that are passed off as not being 1035's (the bad one).  But unless it says 1038, it's not a 1038. If you get really lucky you might find one in a junkyard on a car that had the recall performed.  I did find an NOS one on eBay several years ago.  Otherwise I suggest getting the beefy replacement from Rare Parts. It doesn't look original, but who will ever know?  Let me know if you want any more info; I have a copy of NHTSA's file on this subject.

If you want one from Rare Parts, I am dealer, so a little over my cost is what you can have it for.
