and the Spring/Summer cars were delivered with water and water pump lube from the Factory; not anti-freeze.

Also, the transmission fluid and Power Steering in the 1950's was clear; not red.

How many of us have Delco asbestos brake linings?

Coker makes reproduction 8:20 15 U S Royals for my car, but they are Safety 800's.  My car came with Safety 8's.

As has been stated before, all Judging questions should be referred to Bill Anderson.

Can't get much simpler than that.

The red dye incorporated into the transmission fluid was used right after its inception. It was very useful during the II World War for the Army mechanics to get the right can and or spot a transmission leak.
Father's, relatives and friends in the '40s and '50s always filled up the  Hydra-Matic with the red fluid.

Cars exported to tropical Countries did not have antifreeze. One use to go to a gas station and fill the radiator with plain water...In order to help my Father,  I  did it several times.

My 1958 came with clear type A fluid. The red dye did not appear until later years.

Cars shipped during the winter months had anti-freeze. Mine was delivered 8/1958 with water and water pump lube/anti rust:

This is purely Bill Anderson's call of course, however after 25 years
of judging this is how we (for Class 15) looked at it.

If the base clear looker "proper" in that it was not overdone (think
candy apple red and such) then there was no deduction.  Consider
that many parts of the country no longer permit spraying of acrylic
lacquer and other similar formulations.  Sometimes we have to
consider that times have changed and our choices are limited.

It is a bit like converting to R134a in AC.

In areas of the world, R12 is illegal, so alternatives have to be used, and with R134a, it is obvious that the conversion has been done because of the different fittings.

Bruce,

I have seen several cars where they employed those fittings (no Schrader valves in them) that first came out in the mid 90's that screw onto the standard r12 threads and adapt to r134.  They charge with r134 and then remove them giving the appearance of an r12 system.  This is really bad for me because have the EPA cert card and am a licensed HVACR mechanic this makes me vulnerable to repremand/discipline by jurisdiction that will jeopardize my means to earn a living if I do nothing.  If it were not a deduction the proper fittings might be installed.

Any car that comes under my care in that condition, owner produces the fittings, I evacuate the charge, install the proper fittings with Schrader valves and destroy the r12 to r134 no Schrader valve fittings.  It is not legal to use r12 fittings on an r134 charged car.  Wow!, would I lose it if I had an r12 devoted recovery machine and contaminated it with r134.
