Would this be an interesting article for the self starter

"Cadillac Kid" Greg Surfas 15364

It has been suggested that I write an article for the self starter regarding a few "modifications" I made to my 1973 Coupe deVille that sequentially resulted in a car capable of 12 second quarter mile times.  My questions to this forum are:
1. Would this fit in with the self starter's current format?
2. Would the readership find this interesting?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Since "most" of us are not into modifications/performance, I would say no . . . but some may enjoy it.

Greg, as a former race modified '70 Vette owner and now Cadillac fan I'd personally love to read about it but dont think the Self Starter is the place and I agree with Jon on that. It seems plausible from your reply that Steve (the editor) may have already indicated as such.  How about getting in touch with "The Modified" Chapter?  They would definitely be interested in getting the word out I'd think?

I agree. I like reading anything on the subject of sensible modifications that work.  Go Fast or Not...... ;)

A resound YES for me.

So many new guys pull up in their modified (they think it is original) Cadillac and a bunch of old guys stand around and criticize - no wonder the hobby is on the wane.

The new head judge has embrace modified Cadillacs and has four classes for them now.  This would fit right in.

Probably be one of the better articles!

Greg,

A definite yes! We can pick and choose what we want to use based on our individual originality fetishes.

Hello Greg,

I think an article such as you have in mind would be interesting reading.  In a very broad sense, one might consider all the Cadillac engineering improvements over the years as being modifications.  Prior to the beginning of the pollution control era, Cadillac engine improvements always seem to have been in the direction of more power.

While I probably would not cut a hole in my hood for a blower scoop, I would be interested in reading about camshaft changes and exhaust modifications just to know what went through your mind, and whether you were satisfied with the outcome of your efforts.  Of course, the editor of the Self Starter has the final say, but I wouldn't mind a good article appearing therein.

Scott, do you mean that the CLC has now added 4 official Judging categories, including at the Grand Nationals just for Modified Cadillacs?  If that is the case then I change my stance on this article being in the Self Starter.  If there is an official judging class for something then there should be no reason to not put an article on one of them in the Self Starter.  I'd say post some of the details here too though as not everyone who gets the SS is a Forum user.........sounds like an awesome car regardless.

Go to the CLC homepage, click on "News", select the "chief judges blog", and read about the new judging protocols starting in 2017, including the four modified classes.

More detailed information will be in the judging manual, once the revisions are completed.

YES.

Let's have a little salsa on an otherwise plain Self Starter.  It'd be a good read in Hemmings as well.

As others have said, those that are interested will read it, others will pass just as some pass on articles that don't interest them.

Yes.  Do it.   Please.

Thanks for broaching the subject.  I'm surprised the whole website didn't power down once you entered your post!  I'd like to see articles on how to make our cars better.

I say yes.
