Hi guys. I'm a newbee to the forum so please be gentle. I like in the UK and just purchased a 57 caddy Fleetwood.  It's not a driver yet and I'm ordering manuals etc to get me up to speed asap. I noticed in the dash that the gear selector has two drive positions. Can anyone shed some light on this please as I'm not sure why there are 2 drive positions to choose from as there is already a "low" drive selector. Hope that makes sense?

Left D is the normal position.  Right D delays the 3-4 shift as if you were at full throttle and engages the overrun clutch in the front section which gives you some engine braking.    It kind of the 1957 version of sport mode.

Try to get original factory service manuals, many of the reproduction and digital copies are poorly done and its always the page you need that is extra fuzzy or has gaps in it.

Congrats let me know if you need any help.  57s are picky but when they work they're amazing machines
