Heres the cowl tag on my 70 Eldo. There doesn't seem to be a paint code, only a K. Am I missing something here?
The car came with a very old black totally fried repaint, but there's cream color overspray (not white) hiding around the trunk hinges, etc.
Not any 70 factory body color if I'm not mistaken.
I had one guy tell me that back in the day dealers would order all white cars and paint them to order. What? I've never heard of that in my life.

A dash means special order paint. Look in hidden areas & you will see what it is. I don't remember what top code K is.

K stands for black top. The "-"sign was a separator between body and top color codes. The missing body paint code should, as mentioned above, be due to special order such as previous year color.

This is interesting. So seeing a tag like this isn't uncommon?

Yes, it originally had a vinyl top that was long gone by the time I got it. As were the weld on studs. The hidden areas are a yellow-cream color, nothing like that showing on the 70 paint chart. My 71 Toronado (my first car) was almost the same color.

Yes!   Your car was ordered new in a special order exterior color!   The dash line on the body tag means it isn't one of the factory offerings.    Buyers could then walk in and drop a substantial deposit and have any color they could dream up put on a car at extra cost and delay.

Usually it was an older color the buyer may have had on a previous year Cadillac.  Sometimes they wanted a color to match their company cars.   But there were times when a buyer wanted a specific color to match a dress, their house, etc.
