Hello,

When i activate the trunk release button, it unlatches the lid, but by the time i get outside the car to the trunk , it is pulling the lid back down. What springs it up to open it more so it doesn't get pulled back down? thanks

Glen

Assuming the Allante trunk lid pull down essentially is the same as earlier Cadillacs the problem is your trunk lid is not popping up high enough.  When you release the trunk lid it pops up a few inches.  Then the lower latch is driven up in preparation for the closing sequence.  If the lid is too low the lower latch contacts it and latches on, then drives down to close the trunk.

Have you added anything to the lid that maybe weighing it down?  Maybe the counter balance springs have been weakened or the hinges need a lube job.

no weight added to trunk lid, i lubed the hinges and it still won't lift high enough to clear the latch. thanks

This is a very common problem. The two struts get weak over time and don't push upward enough on the deck lid to get it high enough to escape the pull-down motor when you click the auto release button. I've heard of Allante owners mounting springs somehow to give it extra lift but have never tried it personally. The added strain on the pull-down motor might cause it to give out and it's a bummer having to replace that.
