What have oddities have you carried in your convertible?

Inspired by "Bentley's" post featuring his '68 convertible carrying a Christmas tree, I was reminded of an extended period of time when I put my  aging '61 into the ignominious service  of hauling lumber for an extensive home rehab.  How about it?

I have had ladders and various pieces of furniture sticking out of mine over the years.    It is kinda fun to walk out of home depot with something long and just drop the top and go when everyone else is sitting in the parking lot trying to figure out how they can carry even an 8' board in their 4'  'truck' box.

When I first purchased my house I transported the cherry trees and the crepe myrtles by standing them in the rear floorboard of my 1976 Eldorado convertible. It looked like a parade float traveling from the garden center to the house. I later purchased a decorative concrete birdbath, the base of which was almost too heavy to lift. I decided, protecting the car with some heavy padding, I could lift it just high enough to stand in the rear floorboard of the same Eldorado. I have since sold the Eldorado and now have to transport all my garden shop purchases in a borrowed trunk. I sure miss my Eldorado.

So far my vote is for the trees.

I once went to get a load of dirt,  tractor loader driver guy said which truck is yours?  I pointed to my top down Eldo, but there was a trailer so not as interesting as it could have been.

Back when Hechingers was still in business I needed to bring home a few 2 x 4's.
On my way home I stopped and bought a few and dropped the top on my recently purchase 85 Biarritz and gently put them on the back floor and let them rest on the lowered top. Not much weight.

A person leaving the store made a remark that "it must be nice to be able to use a Cadillac like a pick up truck".

I just said Yup and went on my way.

I took the back seat out of a 69 convertible and had a pony back there for my God son YAHOO

Hello All,

Hard to beat the pony for an unconventional load.

I had a '69 convertible that I used to haul several hundred adjustable drapery rods in cardboard boxes that I was installing in a housing project (about 40 years ago).  I had to make several trips, and had to fill the Caddy's gas tank every other day for a week.

I suppose I too would have to give it to the pony... so far.

Not an American car but in the early 70s I took all the seats out except the drivers and drove to London and bought a 1965 BSA 650. I took the wheels off and man-handled the bike into the car front to back with the bike sat beside me and the wheels in the trunk.  I think back on that and wonder how the hell I ever did it. I would have trouble just lifting a wheel now.

Not a Cadillac story but in 1963 I was driving bus for Seattle Transit. I broke the drain plug off of my NSU motorcycle at the university of Washington campus. Next day I had a run that made last trip from a block away from my motorcycle. Had a friend helping and we loaded the bike and put it towards the rear of the bus. On the way back to Seattle I had to pick up a few passengers and they were curious, but since it was the last trip of the day the farebox removal guy was astounded.  Station was a block from a repair shop and I pushed the bike over there next day and they welded a now bung on the motor.

Haha, for sure! That is crazy :)

I've hauled some things in mine but nothing like that.
