Hello

just signed up

thinking of selling my 2004 corvette and looking for a 1955 sedan deville  my dad had them when I was young and always loved the style
want to drive it in summer ( not every day )  and keep off road in winter as I am in New England

want to stay in the 25-30K area  questions
is the price range realistic
what should I be looking  for/avoid

any input would be greatly appreciated as I am in the discovery phase to see what is possible

thanks  Steve

Steve , with that budget you can get a very very nice sedan.  54/55 big issue is the rear bumper ends they rust out and are pricey to replace and or rechrome.   Good luck !

You're truly a lucky man if you can find a 1955 Sedan deVille; the model did not appear until 1956!  ;)

You should have little difficulty in finding an exceptional example in your stated price range (1956 model)

A 1955 4 door sedan could either be a Fleetwood 60 Special or Series 62 Sedan (both are true B pillar sedans). The Sedan deVille of 1956 was Cadillac's first production 4 door hardtop. The Sedan deVille also had upgraded interior trim over the Series 62 model as well as having the longer rear quarter panels of the 2 door models whereas Series 62 Sedans of this generation were "stubby"

Good luck in finding your dream and welcome to the CLC forum.

just bought a 1953 sedan, runs great 40K miles

after tires, change all fluids and safety check

what to do first

paint exterior or redo interior

decisions:)

What to do first?  Easy.  What can you live with putting off for awhile?

I would urge you to purchase one with a/c--- also, make sure that there is little to no "blow by" as these models did not have positive crankcase venting on the engines... Alas, whether in hot weather or cold, an engine with fumes accumulating underneath the car or stalled in traffic or at a stop light will inevitably seep into the cabin... not pleasant.  Mentioned in the thread are rust through issues in the rear bumper (especially since exhaust exits through the bumper) also, road salt will compromise the front bumper as well. I drove a '56 short deck with a/c for ten years during the 1970's-- with the right tires and shocks, they were great road cars-- so comfortable and amazingly attractive because of there period styling and appointments, and they are very durable.  I'd love to have another one in my life again.

unfortunately no air

first thing I need to do after changing fluids and safety check

are tires

go bias or radial  don't think radials will make that much difference

after that drive it
