Hello my name is Richard Lundgren

I have a 1946 Sedanette 62. I have rebuilt the generator (6volt) and tested it before mounting it in the car. Works as it should.

When mounted in the car it starts charging as it should when you start the engine if it is cold. Then after about 4 to 5 min it stop charging.   Then you can drive for a while and it might start charging again after about 30 min to about half output. Then after 5 more min, then its all gone again. Some time it does not come back at all, just no output from the generator.

The coal looks to be firm pressed by the springs. The springs are really strong. There is no grease or dust on the copper.

Anyone have any clue what this could be? Could the persons that rebuilt the generator have used some material that is not heat resistant enough and hence causes the generator to malfunction while it is warm due to the heat of the engine?

I am at my wits end..

Thank you

Richard

Sounds more like a regulator problem.

Richard,
Hi. Steve is correct. Check your cut-in/cut-out voltage of your regulator. Could be NG, or fiddling/cleaning required. Follow the instructions in the service manual.

Hello,

Many thanks. I got a new VR and installed it, but I will have a look.
