Gents,

I need a source for NOS or quality replacement rod bearings for my 1940 Cadillac 346 engine...both standard and undersized. Want to have them available when the mechanic pulls the pan and inspects the crank/bearings.I see that Kanter has them...but question the quality.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Bob

If there's a problem, scored or spun bearing, you won't know what size you'll need until they dissassemble and machine it.  Plus they need to determine the cause; lube, wear issue, etc.
It could easily mean more damage than just a quick bearing swap.   If that's the case and it has to go down, you'll need more than just a set of bearings.   I'd talk to a local rebuilder that does older motors, they come in rebuild kits with the gaskets, etc.   The name on the box my builder used was "rebuilder's choice".  (online) Or let the mechanic worry about it.

I have had great quality for Falcon engineering. They advertise on eBay   Its true what's been stated already though. pointless buying before you know what you want..

Thanks for the advise,

Understand everyone's point but all I need is a source for quality or NOS bearings.  The rest of it is on my dollar. We will deal with the issues as they arise. Fair chance there is no crank damage. Will mic the crank first of  all.  May be a complete overhaul. Who knows. Don't mind spending a few dollars to be ahead of the game. Good parts will never go to waste.

I've emailed Terrill. Will look into Falcon and the others.

Thanks guys,

Beautiful cars Marty. Both Terrill and Falcon tell me that their bearing are all made in China now.  Marty....are you saying that you have put China bearings, from Terrill in your Cadillacs and had no issues? Do you drive them many miles?

Hopefully that is true as no one has mentioned a source for NOS bearings.  Just too old to keep it a true Cadillac engine I guess.

Thanks,

Bob, the rod bearings I got from Terrell were nos but that was 5 years ago. I think I used Falcon for the main. This was a one time shot for me. It seems Mr Passmore has done quite a few cars with good luck.  And thanks for the complement.

I second that....Feltz is good people. He's helped me out many times. Nothing wrong with their bearings. It is what it is nowadays when it comes to parts.

thanks Bobby,

Your word is more than good enough for me. I have all the receipts for my car's restoration.  There are many from Terrill going back nearly 20 years.  I found one set of NOS, made in USA bearings on EBay. But they looked deteriorated, if that is possible. Kind of scared me off. If my car needs bearings....I will use Terrill.

I don't know if it helps Bob but going through my bearing parts I found I have two New Very old Stock standard rod bearing sets.   Actually made by Cadillac and maybe even War time issue still wrapped in heavy Cosmoline. I      f you wanted the genuine article I don't suppose I would ever use both sets now and could sell one.   You would have international shipping to deal with sadly.
