(If this is a duplicate post my apologies, my phone is acting up)
Ive been a member here for a couple years but not very active. I've recently picked up a project 64 series 62 thats been sitting for awhile. Motor runs great and it drives although i didnt drive it much as it needs some work from sitting awhile. Brakes and throttle are sticky and a few electrical circuits need to be gone through. But all in all its very original and complete. Ive owned a 79 Biarritz and have a 90 brougham delegance. But I know nothing about this era of cadillac so any tips or advice will be helpful. I have a factory repair manual on the way. Im excited for my next project!

Now that is cool.  Start them young.  And she will probably know more about cars than some of the professional mechanics.

That car for 2 grand?? Wow - that's quite a deal!

The 1964 IS a desirable car.
Great engine and Trans combo and first year for climate control.
Arguably the last "Fin"'caddy too.
Great find and good luck.

Thanks for the good words fellas. And the lead to Jason. I really wasn't sure if i got a good deal or not, not knowing what these go for. I just knew I wanted one and had a budget to go with so I went for it. Originally its a white car and someone repainted it black many yrs ago. Its old, oxidized and chipped all over. Only looks good in the pic because its soaking wet haha. Plan to go back to white.

First thing I need to do is get the sticky throttle free. Its not binding at the carb. It seems to be in the linkage somewhere down low in one of the joints but i cant seem to loosen it up. Push the throttle and it stays s
Down. Have to manually pull it back up. Any ideas what would cause that or what to look for? It has been sitting so i sprayed all the joints and worked it but wouldbt loosen it up any

That thing is beautiful in black! And for only 2 G? You lucked out!

These are great cars. I think your 64 outdoes and outclasses the 79 and the 90 in every conceivable way.

Good luck on it. 8)

Thank you!. And I agree. I sold the 79 to look for one of these. And the 90 is my tough daily driver.

Hi Matt, Welcome to the Cadillac LaSalle Forum. You will find a lot of knowledgeable, friendly folks here on the CLC forums. Also check out the 1963/64 Cadillac Website at www.6364cadillac.com, which is hosted by the CLC 1963/64 Cadillac Chapter. Joining the website is free to everyone, however, you must be a CLC member to join the Chapter. For more info, click on www.join.6364cadillac.com

We have a lot of information about the 1963/64 Cadillacs posted on the site including a Help Page at www.help.6364cadillac.com that covers a lot of topics. It sounds like you have the shop manual in the way, which is the first thing I advise people to purchase before anything else!  A lot is also covered in the owners manual and would encourage you to read it from cover to cover.  I have always been amazed at the # of questions that are asked on the 63/64 website forums that are actually covered right there in the owners manual.

The "Series 62" body styles are truly the rare Cadillacs of the 1964 model year as not many survived, especially as a % of the total production #'s. I also especially like the sporty look of the 64-6239 4 Window Sedan, and know you will find much enjoyment with this car.  Have fun with the car, and don't try to fix everything at once. I have been tinkering on my 1964 Coupe de Ville for almost 20 years, and have enjoyed every second of it.

Our chapter also featured each 1964 Body style in 2014 as part of the 50th anniversary of that model year and you might want to check out the Feb 2014 Issue where we featured Rob Simon's 1964 Series 62 Sedan seen in the movie X-Men: First Class.  To check it out go to our newsletter page at www.newsletters.6364cadillac.com and scroll down to February 2014 Newsletter - Rob Simon Series 62 4 Window Sedan Featured

Again, welcome to the CLC Forum and be sure to join the CLC, and the 63/64 Cadillac Website and Chapter!

Jason, awesome! thank you for the welcome and advice! I look fwd to joining the group. Im prepared to take years tinkering with it as well. Its a slow fun hobby to me. I know how it goes...I started my 68 buick back in 96 and just this year im getting closer to complete. Done all the wotk myself with much help being a member of the V8Buick.com forums. Now that the Buick is close to done it will be nice to move to another totaly different style of project

Take a look at the gas pedal hinge. The assembly is held on with 2 screws and nuts.

Ok. Thats one spot I wasnt able to see with the carpet in place. I felt around the base of the pedal and it felt caked with dirt. That might be it. Dirt and what not getting packed around the pedal hinge.

For the throttle return also check the throttle return spring at the carb . After 52 years they often become weak. On the accelerator pedal pivot base, a couple of squirts of WD40 will often help free them up. If considerable dirt and debris build up, you will need to peel the carpet back to get clear access.  Vacuum the base area then hit with compressed air to remove debris. Cleaning/lubing the pivot base and checking the throttle return spring should solve your problem. Also lube the throttle relay assembly on the firewall and make sure there is no binding.
PS. I like the "Throttle Pull Back Wire" attached to the accelerator.
