Hi all, novice owner here.

The speedo on my car runs 10-15 mph slow.  I'm guessing that either the tires on it are too large, or perhaps there is a gear feeding the speedo cable in the trans which is perhaps not the right size?

The car wears Coker Classic 7.00x16 radial tires, but I cannot find any info on-line or elsewhere that shows what the proper circumference should be?

Then again, maybe I'm completely off base...

Your tyres are correct Herb so its not that.  I suppose someone could have fitted a transmission speedo drive gear from a bigger series with the lower axle ratio??

I didn't think about the axle ratio being an issue...dang, that'll be interesting to determine what's in the box..ugh.
Thx Steve!

Don't worry about the axle ratio. There was not an option in 40 so no one could have changed it and the lower ratio axle of the bigger series would not fit but someone could have used the drive gear in the transmission for the lower geared series if they interchange.  Or of coarse it could be just a sticking speedo head or cable?

Ah hah, that sounds like a good place to start and something to while away an otherwise boring (and clean) afternoon...LOL

I'll give it a go!
