Still searching for a 57 Biarritz convertible....What is with the gold wheels I keep seeing? Was that an option? What wheels should come on it or could come on it and if I want a set of those, what I am going to probably pay.

Thanks in advance for your knowledge!

Gold anodized sabre wheels were available as an option.

Thanks!!

What other wheels were factory options or standard????

Gold sabers were ONLY available in 1956.  They will not fit the front of a '57 because of the larger brake drums.

I've seen many 57 Biarritzs running incorrect 56 gold sabres. Always looks wrong to me. I guess they may have shimmed them on the hub. The correct sabres for a Biarritz are chromed with a red medallion plastic crest.
PS my brother once changed my tire and the spare was a 56 sabre. I meant to tell him I had washers to space against the hub but got sidetracked. He cranked the lugnuts as he is prone to do and warped the front drum.

I had a 1957 convertible for some time way back when, and found that the two "best" Sabres that I had would not fit on the front drums as they were the earlier ones. (Both early and late fit on the REAR wheels with no problem.) I had a friend who had a beautiful 1958 Biarritz that had gold wheels from the factory. His story was that to get rid of the stock of leftover 1956 gold wheels, they offered them with a specially cast spacer to fit on the newer brake drum.

It was cost effective to sand cast the spacer and get rid of the excess wheels. So, gold wheels on a 1958 Eldo are factory correct. You'll have to take up gold on the 1957s with Bill Anderson...

That is an interesting bit of info.  Definitely worth investigation.
