1940 60S hood pin in very front

Is this hood pin all there is, or is there supposed to be a spring and spring retainer on it like lots of other cars? There is no lower latch either, or is it gone? Seems odd, being that the back edge of the pin could catch on the sheet metal cover (which is off at the moment).

Brad Ipsen CLC #737

No spring but there is a rubber sleeve that goes on it available from Steele.  There is a panel on top of the grill with a hole in it that that the pin with rubber sleeve goes into.  There are also rubber buttons in the holes you see in your hood picture.
