I have a slight vibration in my 41 346. friend says may be the vibration damper . does it have a rubber piece in it or what ? whe n engine runs you can see the damper is spinning unevenly thanks john

It could well be the damper as it should run straight. If you can locate one from various parts vendors you might  swap out the damper. The process for changing out the damper is not all difficult. You would remove the fan assembly so that you can get to the bolt/nut on the crankshaft then work the damper off. It is keyed. Another area that might cause vibration is the flywheel assuming you have standard transmission. Check the balancing procedure contained in your shop manual. I solved my vibration problem by changing out the damper and balancing the flywheel. Chet Gorgas 25441
