Hey need some help with regards to 1957 Cadillac wiper escutcheon spanner nut. I looks as though the escutcheon spanner should screw onto the smaller section of threads on the wiper transmission. I bought what I though was the escutcheon spanner nuts but they are too big for the first section of threads. Any help would be much appreciated!

I made my own tube spanner.

I used a piece of tubing, and cut out the sided, across the face, leaving two small lugs protruding from the end.

Simple, and useable for these sorts of tasks.

These can simply be tightened up by hand, as there is not much pressure required.

Thanks Bruce but there are a smaller set of threads and a larger set going into the body. Does the escutcheon spanner nut screw onto the smaller threads?

Willie,

The wiper transmission threads are fine, the nut looks to be the closer to coarse and the wrong type of threads.

Not sure if these may fit ??? I can't be 100% sure if they will fit on the Cadillac's  :-\

I have also some corrects ones; I bought them by a company who does not exist anymore: C & P in Kulpsville. They were specialized in 1955 to 1957 Chevrolet parts. Those nuts fit Cadillac cars too...
I'm selling them at the same price as the ones advertised...

I apologise.   The way I initially read it was that your spanner didn't fit, not the nut.

Thanks Willie! However, before I'm sending something useless for you, I checked in the parts book: 1954 to 1956 slotted nut: the part number is: 4648790 and, for 1957 & 58, the number is 4636163. Does that means that the diameter is different? I don't know.
The outside diameter of my parts is 22mm (0.866") The inside diameter is 14.8 mm (0.583"), the high is 5.4 mm (0.212"). If you have an old nut, you may compare those dimensions with what you have.

Hey Roger,

I think you got what I need, the set i have is approximately 25mm outside, 17mm inside, and a little over 5mm height. How much you asking?

Roger Zimmermann

The inside diameter is indeed larger than the ones I have. Sorry, I cannot help.

Hey Roger,

I need the ones with smaller diameter, the ones I have are too large. 14mm should be perfect. Let me know how much you want for them.

Thanks

Roger Zimmermann

I thought it was your original nut! $ 17.00 for both and $ 1.00 for shipping is all I need. I suppose you are using PayPal? I'll let you know my PM where is my account.

Hey guys,
May I give a tech tip in regards to torqueing the nut down....do it gently! I bought an original front windshield out of Texas, installed it and walked out the next AM to find it cracked! Apparently I put too much torque on the nut when tightening....be careful!.....walt...tulsa,ok
