Hello,  I have a 1941 model 62290 four door convertible sedan and would like to know if a deck lid from a different model 1941 Caddy will fit this 4 door convertible. Thank you in advance     Mike Patla # 23389

Most probably not but a Buick of that year could.

Steve, I cannot believe you do not have a Master Parts Book given the many cars you own. The deck lid is the same for 1940 LaSalle Series 52 sedans, 1940 62 Sedans, 1941 Series 62 Sedans, both open and closed. And you are also correct that 1940/41 Buick Super/Roadmaster sedan trunk lids will work as well. And if you really get lucky, 1940/1941 Olds 98 Sedans would work. Best of luck in your quest.

My bad but I did only say 'probably'.          Its a strange fault with my book Barry, it does not cover everything regarding bodies, just mostly chassis. It shows the deck lid in pictures but group numbers don't go up that high.
Must try and correct that when I can find a swap for a Data book ;D.

Give me a chance to try to find it, but I have one of the old Crank N' Hope reprints that I don't use anymore. It does have the body parts as well as the chassis. Please forgive the jab...I couldn't resist. Barry.

Barry,
So... tell us more about this magical book that shows the parts interchange between all the GM cars.

Bob, It's called a "Hollander."

(I don't have one anymore, so I now have to rely on my memory, experience,  and the Cadillac Master Parts Book(s) from Faxon.)

I do wish to point out that lids, doors, etc, will have to have holes filled, others drilled, etc, due to different trims, moldings that may be different from one make to another.

I once astounded Ron Van Gelderen when I stated that a rear fender from a 1941 Buick Century would fit on a 1941 Cadillac Series 6319. Wouldn't look good, but it would bolt right on perfectly.

In 1941 Cadillac was able to market the Series 63 which used about ten new dies to make the dip in the Series 61 body shell and alter the trunk area. From that "dip" forward, the car was pure Series 6109D. Fenders, doors, hood were all the same. And they charged a lot more for the "better" car.

I have a couple of these Hollander Interchange books covering different years but I don't tend to put too much credibility to them. I have proved them wrong on occasions because they tend to list what mechanics have achieved over the decades but they may well have done some serious engineering work to achieve the interchange.     As an example, I just checked mine and I can see where your information comes from Barry and I see that for some of the 40/41 interchange it requires the gutter around the body to be changed also. Quite a feat for most people.
I also have a 'Crank an Hope' GM parts interchange which I never use as I find it pretty useless and incorrect.

I don't know how the Crank N' Hope could be wrong as it was merely mimeographed pages from an original Master Parts Book. Anyway, we found out what Mike needed to know which is what we're here for. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.
