2008 DTS "Service Lane Departure System" message.

Anybody familiar with this feature - specifically if there's anything to check before committing to dealer repair?

S/M suggests the system may need to be programmed otherwise the camera (mounted at rearview mirror) may need to be replaced. Anyone have any idea how common for the camera to fail?

My 2009 STS has a similar or identical system. Its probably just oxidation in the connections. First turn it off and then back on after shutting the car off. Then, I'd try disconnecting the wires to the cameras in the mirror if you can find the connection. Failing that try disconnecting the battery for several minutes. You'll lose some settings.

Update:

No problems found with connections. Further investigation revealed failure of the Lane Departure System (windshield) module is very common.

Found a new module for $175 (ouch), installed it which took about 5 minutes. Message is now gone. Took car for a ride and Lane Departure System immediately functioned as it should.

Fixed a computer module problem for $175?  That sounds reasonable to me.

Where did you get the module at that price? My mechanic told me the module on my 2011 DTS Platinum is bad. He only could find one at $600. I trust him so I know he's not inflating the price. What about locating one in a salvage yard? Are there other makes/models that use the same camera? Which years are compatible? My mechanic suggested the new camera may need to "learn" what is is. Yes? No?

Lucky timing I suppose - eBay.

Here's another for $255.66 including shipping. Claimed to the last one available from this seller.

Problem was corrected immediately without the need for the system to "relearn". YMMV.

Thanks, Eric. I had seen the one for $256. Thanks for pointing out the other. Are there other cars that use the same module? Suppose I could go hunting in the salvage yards?

If you don't mind the effort I suppose. This is a fairly high failure item; you could be making a lot of trips before you find a good one.

According to the compatibility chart ebay furnishes, this module is specific to 2008 - 2011 Cadillac DTS only.

Thanks. Looks like it is also good for 2010 and 2011 Lucerne.

But, I had another thought. Can it be disabled? I find it far more annoying than helpful anyway. LOL

You can disable it in your vehicle settings on the main info screen.

My STS proceeded toblow its module on me after my first post on this and it was an Expensive repair!

DTS Can't be disabled there; however, $242 later it's fixed.

Can anyone advise what the EXACT name of this part is? I tried lane departure module, service lane departure module etc. and a whole bunch of stuff comes up but those that not that description.
