1993 Eldorado steering wheel swap with 2002 eldorado

I have a 1993 eldorado with the ugly square airbag, can I fit a 94-02 steering wheel with airbag easily?

First thing you would need to determine is if the SIR coil (clockspring) is the same part number for the later years, If not, the steering wheel/airbag will not interchange. If you are not positive, do NOT attempt it. Exploding air bags are not fun, and in fact are quite dangerous.

I replaced the square bag/wheel in my 93 Allante with a 99 style, along with the more attractive wood/leather steering wheel some 10 years ago with no problem post install.   The yellow plastic connector was of a different size so that needed update.   Horn works fine.   Now the big question "will the airbag deploy in a crash?"   Don't know, so beware.   Then again, I'm not 100% confident the airbag will deploy on my original 27 yr old STS either.   Tom clc6866

Unless the wheel/air bag assembly is excessively worn, I'd just leave it alone frankly. It could be opening a can of worms plus it's preferable to keep the car as original as possible.

To Eric's point....my original ugly Allante wheel is resting without incurring normal wear and will return to the column when the car goes for sale.   In the mean time I really enjoy driving the wood / leather wheel.   It's not a complex process to swap out and well worth it.  One owners opinion.  Tom clc6866
