Looking for some info. I have a 46 Hydramatic, freshly rebuilt. Before I install it there is a rear mounted switch that I cannot find any info regarding. It fits on a bracket across the tail shaft housing. It is actuated by a rod, that I do not have, from the shifter rods. I assumed it was the neutral switch but that is not correct. I thought it might be a reverse light switch but there are no reverse lights on the car. Does anyone know what switch this might be. The wiring has been stripped out and was in very bad shape so that possible source of info is gone it it ever was a source. Thanks in advance, Ron

If you want to sell that switch or if anyone has one for sale, I would be interested in purchasing it.

In answer to his question though, what is the switch? The wiring diagram only shows the neutral switch related to the Hydro. Mine was on the column in 41. Did they move it back in 46?

Sounds like what you have left is part of a reverse lite set up for your car. The bracket uses the bottom bolts of the tail shaft housing. At the end of the bracket is a switch with an arm. Attached to that arm is a rod and the other end of that rod is connected to the shifting lever on the side of the transmission. When you manually shift the transmission to reverse, the shifting lever on the transmission moves aft and so does the rod which is attached to the arm of the back up switch. Now the back up lite comes on. Bring the car out of reverse and the light goes off. The switch is hard to find and carries a Delco number 1997774. Just because there is not a back up light on your car now, don`t assume there was not a light on your car sometime in the past.
Neutral switch was on the column as pictured below. Here is another switch that is hard to find. Delco 1997766 for 42-47 and Delco 199750 for 1941. Bill

Bobby, thanks for the details. That is exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks for helping. Ron.
