I have a 1948 Cadillac series 62 and the motor number starts out with 4876, all that I can find out is that it should start out with 4862. I also have a series 61 and the motor number starts out with 4861.
Could this motor in the series 62 be a replace factory motor sense the serial number starts out with 4876?
A series 75 motor number would be for the year 1948, 4875........
Thanks in advance!

The motor must have come from a Series 76, which in '48 was Commercial Chassis vehicles (hearses, ambulances, etc.).

Toby,
You come on this board asking for information. Jay gave you the CORRECT answer. It's best to use Cadillac issued data rather than some outside source which in this case  is incorrect.

According to my 1935-55 Parts List, the designation of Series 76 for commercial chassis vehicles was used one year only in '48.  From the late '30s until 1947 Cadillac commercial chassis vehicles were part of Series 75 (limos), and from 1949 until sometime in the 50s or 60s they were designated as Series 86.

LaSalle commercial chassis vehicles had different designations.
