Won't work.  The '91 needs the external amplifier to work.

I am fairly certain the newer style radio used in the 90-92 RWD Brougham has two sections: The control panel/CD/cassette transport mechanism and the rest of the radio - tuner, amplifier, preamplifier unit which is mounted elsewhere.

On the 1987-1989 style (with amber display) the radio unit is self-contained.

Unless you're willing to get involved in a major retrofit project, you should stick with the 87-89 unit. They're often listed on eBay.

What is the current radio?  Aftermarket with some sort of adapter plate or is it from another GM?   If its aftermarket chances are good the wiring is a mess and going back to a stock unit may take a fair amount of work.

These days many aftermarket radio installations have converter harnesses that eliminate the usual practice of cutting and splicing wires so going back to original may or may not be the headache it had once been.

It's more time consuming than anything else - but not difficult.

The biggest worry is not so much the wiring, but any physical modifications to the center dash panel to accommodate the aftermarket unit, which means a new (used) dash panel will need to be found - in the right color in good condition.

The center dash section is the same used from 1987-1989 RWD (Brougham).

Thanks the original was removed and an aftermarket installed Does the 87=89 radio have a knob on each side or the 2 knobs on the left?

The OP would be wise to grab that one.
