Is the engine compartment painted body color or semi-gloss black.. The authenticity manual says body color.
Perhaps someone with an original car can accurately answer this or someone who has painted one which was original prior to the paint job.

If the question is the inner fenders, they are body color.  The underside of the fenders were black which from my experience was painted first since there is not a good separation between the two.  In other words they did not mask off the black very well if at all.  Overspray hit the black.  Firewall was body color.  If you have seen the factory body drop pictures this is obvious and makes sense.  The only remaining question are the underside of the hood and some of the small parts like the core support and top panel between the grille and the core support.  That top panel and core support are all black.  Describing the exact gloss or flatness of the black is a problem but for sure it is not high gloss.  My opinion on the underside of the hood is black and hinges and springs body color but not distinct line between the black and color at the hinge.  In other words no good masking was done.  Restoration is hard to do without masking off well.  Will this finally be the limit of judging.  Is overspray mandatory, permissible or is none the standard.  Original fender picture of 1940 LaSalle attached.
