Greetings,
I am trying to find some correct hardware for the firewall pad on my 40 LaSalle.
I need  large head slotted 1/4 x 20 x 1 1/2 bolts.
Does anyone have a source for these or something similar?

Try www.gardner-westcott.com  I've had good luck finding various slotted head fasteners there. Click "shop" and then "automotive" on the drop down.

Fred,
Hi. After Much research I can up with this...They're  called Sidewalk Bolts, and they use them as "Hurricane" Hardware to fasten things. I bought a pack of 50 each of 3/4" and 1".  I didn't see the need for anything longer. You're more than welcome to have some. If you need them I can ship them to you. Other companies wanted $4.00 each. That's highway robbery. If you want "Original," I still have my old ones. They aren't visible, and I would rather have new and Stainless, but that's you're call. Hope this helps..... ;)

Steve I have an old Bob's catalog. They were only $2.50 a couple of years ago. I found the bolts there but I did not find them on the website, Thanks.
I would like to find the bolts from a fastener supply. Bob has to get them from someone, I'm sure he doesn't make them in the back room.
The cut to length is correct. The bolts I removed were all cut off with bolt cutters. I wish I could find the one's I removed but that is the problem with having a car apart this far and this long.

I sure wish restorations were like they are on TV and done in 30 minutes to an hour.

Bob has a lot of this stuff specially made for him Fred. I hope you find his source but this may not be possible. I have found many things that he stops supplying over the last 35 years and it's never available anywhere else.    I think there's only about eight or 10 of these so while it might be expensive compared to the actual fire-wall pad, $30-$40 pails into insignificance really if authenticity is your 'Bag'
Personally, if I could get them in this country by the bag (which I can't) I would go with Bobby's idea.
let us know if you find anything cheaper.

To everyone,
   I searched for weeks on end including every "Hardware, Machine Shop, and Industrial Supplier here in the U.S. for these Bolts. All the heads fall short and will basically not cover the holes in the Trans Tunnel cover. Bob's was actually the only vendor that listed these, but I wasn't going to pay that price for an item that's not visible, and I have a nice driver, not a 100% "Original" Car. I personally would rather have new. Plus I wasted so much effort on something as trivial as a "Bolt", that I could've put my time towards something more productive. There's a lot of wasted time in restoring these 30's/40's cars, and finding "correct" headed hardware that's not readily available anymore is not something I find Fun.

Hello Fred,

I am in the process of refurbishing an old floor safe that was manufactured in 1888 - yes, 129 years old.  The wheels bolt to the safe and none of the square heads of the 8 bolts used are the exact same size.  The point being that sometimes original replacement products are rare and or expensive, so you may need to consider a substitute.

Your post indicated you were looking for an original replacement or something similar.  Bob's Automobilia seems to have the original.  Several people have posted sources for similar screws.  I'll add this one:

The diameter of the head is nominally 3/4 inch.  If that will work, and the screws will not be seen, the substitute seems to be a good solution.

Many times I wish I could wave a magic wand and have my project completed.  Barring that, using a substitute part is fine with me.  I am not seeking a 100 point car, just one that I would like to drive before my demise.

Hi. I went back to my McMaster-Carr catalog and had a sticky on that page. It's all coming back to me now. I saw the price of them and did a little more searching and wound up ordering the ones I did because they were 3X cheaper than those, although the head is a slotted/phillips combo. The originals look more like a flattened stove bolt. Neither of them are technically "correct" except for the ones that Bob's carries. And again, I wasn't going to pay that amount of money for a Screw that's really not visible. I'm definitely not cheap, but overpaying for stuff like that doesn't really make sense to me because my car is a just a nice driver.

Sounds good.  I have worked on stuff up to a century old, and sometimes I'm surprised
at just how bad the quality is.  And of course stuff that was custom way back has been
standardized into off the shelf now; typically much better. 

The rule here is top functionality/quality first, cost second, originality way back

I can confirm that the McMaster sidewalk bolts work fine. You can even get them in stainless so they will never rust either!  There is a similar bolt used by 1940 Fords which is available from those specialty vendors.

I am always amazed how much collective information there is on the forum.
Thank you all.
I swallowed hard and bought them from Bob's.
( I needed some other parts from him as well  )
I plan on buying the bolts for the floor panels from McMaster Carr (thanks for the link)or a local supplier.
Once I had the terminology ( Sidewalk bolt ) it made it easier to search.
