Hello,
I'm working on a 1940 Cadillac series 62 sedan.  The engine in place is a 1939 Lasalle flat head.  My Question is how should the vacuum lines be routed.  The vacuum pump has two ports, the intake manifold has one with a shut-off valve, the Cadillac carb. has one on the base plate and another on the vent tube (?)and the wipers have one.  There is no vacuum advance on the distributor.

Thanks for the help,
Jeff Hager

Wipers connect to one side of the pump. The other side connects to the intake manifold. Never seen a shut off valve on there before???  Small one on the base of carb is for vacuum advance.   The top one on float chamber is vent pipe down back of engine in case of flooding.

Jeff,

1940 was the (except for one trial year) first year for a vacuum advance. The distributor for Cads is the same from 1940 to 48 as is the vacuum advance if you want it to look like a 40.
