I am trying to re- attach the rounding piece of upholstery that runs down the door opening of a 73 eldorado.  its kind of a trim piece that covers the gap between the metal and the arm rest door panel.

Its a vinyl, not leather, the metal is painted the color of the car

does any one have a line on a good permanent strong adhesive that will hold,, it will be subject to some contact as people come and go into the back seat.

Any ideas.

Sincerely
Kim

I have had good results with 3M 08001 Yellow Super Trim Adhesive,  known by many as "Yellow Snot"   ;D  True.

Also 3M Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive 18-9900.

The yellow can be found at hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowe's.
The black I find at my local automotive paint and body supply store.

Big Red's large running board rubber matting have been held on with the yellow for 6 years now and are still very tight.  Getting the rubber matting off would be a big job.

Kim:

I have a '73 Eldorado and for the life of me I can't picture the trim strip
you describe.  If you could snap a quick pic and either post it here or send
it to me I'll try to help.

YES,, yo are correct,, i googled your term and there it was.....mine is of the vinyl type,,somewhere in the past,,, the interior was redone,,,I'm not a smart man,, but the work appears poor and sort of thrown together when it came to fine details...thus, this is the result,,these things coming out, on both sides.
and,, it may be that it could a better fit if it were a vinyl on vinyl to attach to the armrest panel..

anyway, now that the term is correct.  any thoughts would be helpful

Kaiser, if you check on EBay, "Eldorado windlace", 2 vendors are selling multiple color choice original laces. Originally the laces were press fit to the metal flange along the body with maybe a screw at top or the bottom.
If your originals are gone this could be the ticket!

thanks,, that is them,, i think the ones on my were sort of made to fit sort of thing,, just a circular tube with an insert,, appears the originals have a guide of the metal edge to slip in to for fit and some sort of flap over that,, anyway,  thanks
