I want to swap out my Quadrajet carb with a replacement same as OEM.  OPG has the SMI 3803 which is a rebuilt Rochester.  The shop model in the book for the year model 75 calls for a model M4MEA and the M4MV for the 74 year model with some changes to meet smog standards.  Where can I find the M4MEA or will the M4MV woork?

OPG wants 4-8 weeks for one since I think they are selling one rebuilt from SMI.  Any help or ideas for finding a source?

TIM:  I would strongly recommend you contact Hobbs Carburetor Shop, 108 Windham Rd, Pelham, NH 03076, telephone: 1-603-635-2415.  This shop has got to be one of the best in the country for rebuilt and repairing of quadrajet carbs.  I acquired one from them about 30 years ago for my76 CDV and have NEVER had one slight problem since then; I even purchased another one for a backup.  Be certain you give them the part number that is printed on the carb so they'll rebuild or sell you one that belongs on that year perfectly.  The 1976 one changed slightly.  Good Luck!  EAM

Tim,
FWIW (IO believe) the '75 carburetor is a one year only unit and as such I would strongly recommend getting yours rebuilt by someone who knows QJs.

As others have said, I'd have yours rebuilt by a quadrajet specialist.  Rebuilt units are made up of different parts of other carbs and those parts often don't work very well when put together.  Best to re-use parts of the carb that have lived their life together..  Word of mouth from customers is the best way to find a reputable shop.

I think the spare on my workbench is a '75.

I'd happily trade it for a '72 with cadillac numbers.

Hmm, also check ebay--I found about 3 boxed Delco rebuilds for '72 when I got mine.  It came in a Delco box labeled for its contents, and was still shrink-wrapped . . .

I just peeked; there's a couple of '75 rebuilds there right now, but none are delco.  Most are someone who seems to think the year doesn't matter, but a couple are actually '75s.

Yes cannot emphasize enough as all the other posts, get a 1975 Cadillac carb rebuilt.  There are numerous specific vacuum connection hoses and all.  Do not buy a rebuilt one that you were thinking of doing as I did that first and it was a disaster - not a correct carb - it was so bad I did not even bother to install it and returned it.  PM if you want more details.  Sorry to be so cryptic, this post will get yanked if I go to far.

Many of the 75's had a unique 6 jet carb.   My 75 had one and it got noticeably better mileage than my 73 I can only assume its because of the odd carb.

Its got a part throttle jet and an ambient pressure jet.  The regular jets are removable the extra ones are not.   The ambient thing was used on 'altitude' carbs.  The part throttle jet was apparently only a part of 75 Cadillac thing.
