I've been looking at a lot of 1976 Eldorado and how the roof stacks.

The ones with a parade hard boot seem to stack much lower than one with a soft boot. The ones with a soft boot seem to stack a bit lower than those with no boot (especially the middle of the header bow). The ones that don't seem to have been ordered with a boot option stack the highest and the middle of the header bow is somewhat above the sheet metal line. Is this anyone else's observation?

My own vehicle does not appear to have come with a boot option - there are no snaps to attach a boot. Did GM use a different sheet metal (one with snaps attached) if a soft boot was ordered?

The top is the top and it doesn't matter if the hard boot was ordered.  It was actually only a $63.00 option!

All the cars came with a soft boot matching the interior color and there are only a couple of snaps on the inside quarter upholstery.  The soft boot came with plastic tabs that slip under the molding.  The belt molding that goes around the top opening is smooth with no snaps.

If your car has the holes on the fake wood metal portion of the inside quarter upholstered sections then you car came with a hard boot and it's missing.  See pic below.

Is THAT what that's for!!! I figured it was maybe for a shoulder belt option or something.

So the next trick is to get the roof to stack low enough to get a parade boot, which I have wanted since that picture of Arnold Palmer standing by his Eldo that got posted here recently. Very slick look.
