Hello all, I have spoke wire wheels on my 53 series 62 with new non-radial tires. So.................I have a set of steel wheels I would like to restore. They came with the car. They are Vincenses Red. Should I repaint them with Vincences red or the body color of the car? I would like them to be correct to the new paint color, the car from the factory was Phoenix Beige, with full wheel covers, so you only saw the band of red on the outer most portion of the wheel. Thanks for any ideas or help you can offer!

Were it up to me, I would maintain the original color of red. It is distinct to only a few model years, contrasts nicely against the WW - and most of all, it's correct to the car.

I also think the red would look nice against the beige as well.

Perfect, thanks for the info Eric. So the red was available for the wheels with all body colors?

Red painted wheels had been installed on multiple makes of GM vehicles in mid '50s.

To your question whether this feature was standard or optional, I would have to defer to those more familiar with the model year(s) in question.

Vincennes red was an optional colour with some exterior colour choices.  If you're looking to stay true to original, what does your build sheet say?

Phoenix beige could be had with either phoenix beige wheels or Vincennes red for a modest upcharge.

The red was an option and was included in my cars build.

Not Phoenix Beige but I think the red wheels look good on this car.

I would definitely go with the Vincennes red on a Phoenix beige car.
