Would anyone here have an idea what it would cost to have the heater core replaced on a 1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville?

Are you referring to a "repair" by a competent radiator shop or finding an NOS
replacement.  They can be repaired by an "old time" radiator shop if you have
one in your area (if it's not to far gone).

And, are you also referring to the cost of actually doing the removal, repair, and replacement of the heater core.

This labour content would be high, especially with someone not knowing actually what is involved.

I always say...the industry starts the assembly line with the heater core...and then builds a car around it😂

You are in luck.  Cadillac made the heater core replacement for the 1965-1970 about the easiest.  This work is all done from under the hood (except 1969-70 have four screws under dash to remove).  Read the shop manual and it is not difficult.  Just take care to not damage the gasket between fire wall and heater box casing.  Also, while the heater box is out, now is the time to replace any bad vacuum actuators.

Make sure there is no Ferris to Copper (Fe, Cu) metals in contact (galvanic corrosion, often the cause of failure) - factory and replacement use paint to accomplish this, but I use gasket  sheets too.

If you want your car all messed up, at least in our DC Metro area, by all means have a shop do the work.  If you want it done right, have a club member help you or do it yourself entirely.

A shop would probably charge $800, you can do it in a weekend easy, provided it does not need actuators or you have them on hand (Old Air Products sells them new - they fit muscle cars too).

Good luck,
