Hi

Anyone have some directions on taking the top down of a 1940 LaSalle Convertible sedan?

Anyone know how many of these cars are left on the road?

Thanks

Is it a 50 series?  I have one and there is one other in the club, and since only 125 were produced I doubt 10 are left in the world.  I have never had my top down and was going to get assistance 4th of July as I was in a local parade.  A friend of mine broke down in his Triumph and I stayed with him until he had service truck on the way and got to the parade too late to get help getting the top down.   I am still not sure how to do it and looking forward to answers you may get. I imagine it is the same as on earlier years and many more were produced.

I just thought of another situation for you to consider. Another problem with taking the top down is the B pillars are removed when the top comes down. They are quite valuable and almost impossible to find, so secure them in a safe place when the top is down.

Some of my earlier shop manuals show lowering the tops on sedans and convertibles in great detail. Do you think the same procedure would apply?

Thanks for the offer Steve. I just received a message from Jim Stamper and he gave me a blow by blow description of how he did it with the 1939 LaSalle he once owned.  Sounds difficult for one guy but doable, and much easier with two persons

Gary, or anyone else for that matter,

How about a quick restatement of what Jim Stamper told you about how to get these tops down so other folks can learn the process?
Thanks,
