Did the series 62 coupes have front and back arm rests? I though only the De Villes offered them.

Rear only on 62 series.  All other Cadillacs got front seat armrests.  1957 was the first year for front seat center armrests.

That is what I thought. This must be after market because the tag does list it as a 62 series. Thank you for your help.

Not so fast. In 1957 all models were listed as Series "62" on the data tag except for Eldorado Brougham, 60 Special and Series 75.

Need to check VIN# - it will contain a 'J' if CdV; 'G' for Series 62 Coupe.

The letter designation did not start until 1958.

Then check data tag again.  Series 62 Coupe is 6237; CdV is 6237DX

A deville will be denoted by "sedan deville" or "coupe deville" script on the front fenders.  "CADILLAC"  will be spelled out on trunk lid...  NO CADILLAC CREST on trunk lid.  Interior is cloth/ leather with pleated leather back bolsters, cloth inserts in biscuit/ button trim WITH FRONT SEAT CENTER ARMREST.  Ceiling in perforated elascofab with anodized aluminum crossbows.  NO center courtesy lamp.  Deville has 2 lamps on the roof bows.

BASE series 62 series: (non eldorado or deville for clarification)

Interior in ALL CLOTH or cloth and elascofab vinyl. NO LEATHER and plain bolster.   "Cadillac" script on front fenders, crest on trunk lid.  Plain headliner with center lamp.  No center armrest.  Also may (standard) have manual windows.

While there is interest in '57 coupes, way back when I was a "specialist" for 1957 (not nearly as expert as you guys) I had a guy call me and wonder why his black car had two paint codes on the cowl tag. And, his car had the flattened "S" on the "C" pillar that all two-toned cars had to separate the roof color from the body color.

I looked up the two shades in my paint book and found that one color was Mountain Laurel, and the other was Turquoise. So out comes the reason the car was re-sprayed black. The car was originally "Sky-Blue Pink."  That appelation is from the late forties I think, and I can't remember now why it was such a popular expression. As I said last week, I have way too much time on my hands...

The verdict is in. It is currently listed on Ebay. Front scripts say Cadillac. trunk had a crest and there is one dome light on the roof. The tag says 6237. They must have just redid the interior with Deville when she was restored.
