Now that my car is back I'd like to have the upper door wood restored correctly.

Can someone recommend a good source?

Do you have picture of what you have to work with ?  I replaced the burl veneer on mine a few years ago .       MS

Hi, You can get the veneer from the Web or eBay. You will need clamps to hold it on on the ends but it's not a hard job. Just take your time. (You can get the black "string" that divides the veneer from the "side" of the molding as well.)

The answer depends a bit on the condition of your current wood garnishes.  If the wood is structurally sound and the veneer is in good shape, the old finish can be stripped, then the wood stained with Minwax Special Walnut, and sealed with polyurethane.  If the veneer is failing, it can be removed, leaving the walnut base and ebony trim strip in place.  I found that steaming was a good method to release the original glue.  The veneer you need is an elm burl wood.  You can apply an iron-on glue to the new veneer, which is a bit easier than clamping methods.  The veneer and walnut grain will look better if filled with a paste wood filler before final sand & finish.  If all this sounds intimidating, find someone locally who refinishes fine antique furniture.

Good luck!

Thank you to all.  The veneer has been removed and the wood stained and coated.  The black line (stripe) is present although not correct.

The wood is in really good shape and and should be relatively easy restoration.
