I have a 1941 Cadillac 6267 that has 1/8 or more slop in the steering wheel that I would like to fix. I was told it can be fixed with adjusting screws on the steering box? But I do not know which screw to turn with out mess something else. Can someone help me out on which screw to turn.   Thanks  Don

Don,
Hi. Are you sure it's the box?  Everything is explained in the manual. Easier to adjust if the box is out or at least disconnected. First you have to set the shaft bearing preload, and then the preload over center. Usually done with an inch-lbs. torque wrench. Too tight and you can damage something and possibly lock the box up. I went through 3 boxes to find good parts before rebuilding. Usually the block is worn out internally and it's hard to have the slop go away....

1/8" isn't bad. I had a Buick with 3" and we considered that OK >:D    Anyway, the 41 has a 'Reciprocating Ball' steering box and as such has very little adjustment.   As Boddy said "Bearing preload" and Pitman arm end play only.
Check every thing else first like tie rod ends and the Idler Arm.

I also had like 3"  >:D........I wouldn't bother for an 1/8". Just learn how to anticipate aiming it when approaching turns. You'll get the hang of it  ;D ;D ;D....
