Recently bought a 1961 convertible and am bringing it to the Chicago area. Can any members recommend a good mechanic in Chicago or the surrounding area? Much appreciated w.

I don't know what section of Chicago you're targeting -- "Chicago" is a big place -- but I patronized a place on the south edge of the Loop for a few years: Willow Auto.

Brian is the owner and also a great guy: A gruff Chicagoan with the heart of gold. At the time (2011-2014), I was driving a 1995 Civic Si that was, lurking beneath the Civic sheet metal, a 1997 Japan-spec Integra Type R. Even though I had the initial impression that Brian was a German specialist, it turned out he and his crew does great work on everything.

I mean everything. It was sort of humbling, one time, to see my lowly Civic parked next to the two new Mclarens he was prepping for customers. His shop and storage areas are more interesting than many auto museums. Another time I visited, I looked over a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz and the 1955 Messerschmitt that was sitting a few feet away.

Brian isn't cheap, but he estimates/schedules well and keeps his promises.

Good luck!
