Good afternoon,
I am based in New Zealand and restoring the above mention car.
The dash is in very poor condition and I am seeking photos please of how the dash should look including all dash knobs.
Anyone please able to provide detailed pics?

Secondly please the correct carb and image of the dash throttle cable attaching to carb.

Many Thanks
Jason

All the 38 dashes disintegrate. I can vouch for this have had two 38 coupes and had to restore both dashes. There have been threads on this subject before as Bruce Berghoff can testify as he's the only man I know who was reproducing the dash parts. The plastic used in this year was of very poor quality.  Attached are pictures of Bruce's repro work.

The correct carburetor was an AA-25 with electric choke. Like 'Hen's teeth' and very expensive.

Picture of carb throttle lever.

Thanks Steve,

Thankfully I have the correct carb with electric choke, at some point the Throttle cable has been removed so need to rectify this this.
those photos are a great help,  :)

I have been able to track down a replacement headlight switch, I am unsure however what the dash knob bottom left (under the headlight switch) is for, can anyone please advise/

Many thanks
Jason

Thanks Steve,

So my vehicle is started by the accelerator pedal, did they have both starting methods then?

Cheers

Interesting,

So mine has been changed a fair bit!!
I will try to track down a start button - any idea of the part number?

Again, thank you for your helpful replies.

Thanks
J

Yes, it would appear so. Doubt you would have much luck getting a complete starter switch as their plastic suffered the same fate as all the other plastic on the dash. That's probably why a past owner changed the system. I had to put reproduction plastic nobs on every switch on both my cars. The horn button and surround goes the same way.  Parts are the same as LaSalle if that helps.

Thanks again,

Have managed to get a head light switch and starter switch, horn button surround on the list and center dash panel to go.
Thanks again for your help 😊

Is anyone able to provide the measurements of the dash center piece including the grill sizes etc.  I will get this piece machined up locally.

Thank you
Jason

Do you not have any of your original left?
These were a plastic mold, with the chromed strips die cast. The whole right hand side is a very complex opening Ashtray.  Bruce reproduces part of it in cast Alloy and parts in brass which then needs a lot of machining to make it all fit and operate. You even have to use some of the original ashtray hinge parts to make it work.
Having re-build one of these from parts I can testify it's very complicated and not sure I could have done it without my original (bad as it was) as a rough guide.

Thanks Steve, all mine has is a piece of wood with the original clock center moulding screwed into it. Nothing else I'm afraid.

Sadly, I don't think you will find the dimensions you need. It's also a big problem trying to find an original as a guide, one because half the parts have to be removed for the replacement and two because whats left actually falls to bits when the parts you need are removed. Once I had removed mine from the dash I had about 20 pieces of plastic.      Bruce's molds were taken from an original years ago and not made from a dimensional drawing.  You have a task indeed.

You might try Bruce but he hasn't posted in a while.  Bruce Berghoff, Arcadia, MI (231) 889-3343
