Is it possible to freshen up my black top with some dye?

David Greenburg

It should be, but keep in mind it is not vinyl; it is actually convertible top material known as Vicodec.

The confusion comes about because "vinyl" is not one product. That
name covers a whole range of products with similar chemistries.

Actually, Vicodec as an early vinyl product with chemistry much like that
used today.  Therefore, any "dye" that will work on a "vinyl" should also
work on your Vicodec top.

Surflex. I put one coat on my '24 Cad almost 30 years ago. It still looks good , but I am fanatic about limiting sun exposure (delicate original top and headliner) , and I keep water off it. Clean the top well and then wipe down with industrial grade denatured ethyl alcohol before application. Get enough alcohol to flush , and then blow out your brake system if you have not done so in the last several years. This advice does not apply to silicone brake fluid.   - Carl
